De Minimus Exemption Removal

Shipping Update at Clear Mind Jewellery: Temporary Pause on U.S. Orders

Hey Clear Mind Family,

We’re reaching out today with an important update about shipping — specifically for our friends and supporters in the United States.

As you may have heard, on Friday, August 29th, the U.S. government is officially removing the de minimus exception, a rule that has (until now) allowed packages under $800 to enter the U.S. without additional duties or complex customs paperwork. This change impacts the way small businesses like ours ship handmade goods across the border, and unfortunately, it comes with a lot of uncertainty about what’s required next.

Transparency is a big part of how we do things here, so we want to walk you through what’s happening, how it affects orders, and what steps we’re taking to get back on track.

What’s Changing?
Starting immediately, we will be pausing all shipments to the United States until we know exactly how Canada Post will be handling international parcels under these new rules. This pause will give us time to:

- Learn what new paperwork is required for our jewellery to legally enter under CUSMA (the Canada–U.S.–Mexico Agreement).
- Ensure that our pieces can cross the border clearly declared and free of unnecessary tariffs.
- Adjust our shipping setup so everything remains smooth, transparent, and fair for you.

This is not a decision we take lightly — we know many of you are waiting on orders or planning ahead for special occasions. But we’d rather hit pause and make sure everything is compliant, safe, and tariff-free than risk delays, surprise costs, or parcels being held at the border.

Orders Already Placed
If you’ve already placed an order shipping to the U.S., don’t worry — we’ll be reaching out to you directly. Depending on timing, we may hold your package securely until things are clarified, or we’ll discuss alternative arrangements if needed. Your order and your trust mean the world to us, and we’ll make sure no one is left in the dark.

What This Means for New U.S. Orders
- For now, U.S. shipping is temporarily disabled on our website.
- Canadian orders and international orders outside the U.S. are still moving as normal.
- As soon as Canada Post and customs confirm what documentation and processes are required, we’ll reopen U.S. shipping.

We’re hopeful this pause will be short-term, but at this moment we don’t have a clear timeline.

Why This Matters
The removal of the de minimis exception is more than just a technical change — it alters the way every small package enters the U.S. For big-box corporations with automated systems, these changes are solved quickly. For small makers like us, it means taking the time to understand, adapt, and ensure we’re doing right by you and by the law.

Handmade jewellery is already a journey of patience. This adds another layer of waiting — but it allows us to keep our values intact: integrity, transparency, and care.

Thank You for Your Patience ♥
We know this is frustrating news, especially for our Clear Mind Family in the U.S. Please know we’re working behind the scenes to bring shipping back as soon as possible.

In the meantime, Canadian customers and those outside the U.S. can still order as usual, and we’ll keep everyone updated as soon as things change.

If you’ve got questions, or if you’re in the middle of planning a special order, reach out. We’re here for you — listening, adapting, and making sure you feel supported through this transition.

With gratitude and clarity,
Shannon and Dan
